Introduction video transcript
The full transcript of my eight minute introduction: what I have built, the projects I maintain, and how I work. Timestamps link to the matching moment in the video.
Captions were corrected. The English captions on the video, and this transcript, were reviewed and corrected by hand. Where I misspoke, the intended term is shown: at 6:21 I say “worksheet”, but the product feature is “workflows”, which is what the captions and this transcript use. Machine transcription errors were also fixed, including “IBM Apptio”, “focus areas” and “free as in freedom”. Otherwise the wording follows what was actually said.
Hello, I am Girish. I am a backend enterprise architect who has experience building software systems and designing solutions for enterprises.
I have been working with industry for more than 12 years now and I have worked with a university as well. I have relevant experience in developing software for enterprises which use communication systems.
In my prior experience, I have worked with Cisco for WebEx Teams software. I have developed backend microservices for Cisco.
Apart from that I have worked extensively using service-oriented architecture and built software as a Service, SaaS. My recent project was with OpenProject GmbH, a project management software company based in Berlin, Germany.
I have built integrations to support OpenProject with communication platforms such as Matrix, also known as Element. I have also developed integrations for Mattermost and I have white-labelled OpenProject and customized it to allow portfolio management features which are free and open source.
These days portfolio management offered by companies are proprietary by nature. Some of the few examples include Jira Align and IBM Apptio.
To provide a free and open source alternative I have built Yojana which is the portfolio management software along with project management. It is GPL-licensed software and compatible with open source copyleft licenses.
There is no vendor lock-in or any constraints for the enterprise, small teams, users who are using Yojana. I have also worked on building AI enabled chat features integrated with Yojana and it enables the user to use an LLM model which is locally hosted and access the features offered by the portfolio management software as well as project management seamlessly.
One of the important focus areas of building Yojana has been data privacy, data sovereignty and open source. So this software allows the users to modify, change certain features and distribute those changes as well.
It provides all those freedoms unlike a proprietary software which are licensed by companies and hold copyrights and patents which disallow users to make changes, improve, test, debug and share those changes. Yojana offers a free-as-in-freedom project management and portfolio management solution.
And our target audience will be small enterprises who are building products and need these tools to be able to manage their work packages, schedule meetings, track costs, implement workflows and also be able to communicate with other enterprise software using a common webhook. So Yojana is currently under development and its build has been deployed for testing.
There are still a lot of features that need to be tested thoroughly before rolling out. The repository is hosted on GitHub and there have been constant changes and bug fixes being committed to it.
I am the author of Yojana and I am the solo contributor as of now. I guess that wraps up all I have to say about my project and my previous experiences. Also I host a portfolio website called girishm.info where all the projects, past and current, and the experience is mentioned.
Thank you for your time.
